Tips to Remove Dark Circle Under Eyes

Dark circle under eyes is a common beauty concern for lots of women. These dark circles appear because the area under the eye does not contain any fat, and as a result, the blood vessels are very noticeable. This under eye transparent look, called "raccoon eyes" by some unthinking people, has caused worry and loss of self-confidence in many women.

Because of the lack of a fat layer under the eyes, fluid from any cause, such as too many sleepless nights, too much drinking, or crying, will collect in the area and make it appear as though “bags” have developed under the eyes. Let’s take a closer look at this problem, including the factors that contribute to the development of eye circles and how to combat them.

Age is a common factor in the development of dark circles under the eyes. It is a fact, as you get older, you will be more prone to them. The skin that protects your eyelids is thicker when we are young but gets thinner with age. With thinner eyelids -- a natural occurrence with age -- more blood vessels are exposed because they are closer to the surface.

Heredity and Allergies and Dark Circle Under Eyes

As we all know, heredity is one of the things we have no control over. This tendency towards thinner eyelids is passed on in families from one generation to the next. So if heredity is the culprit for dark circles under your eyes, you simply must accept it and learn how to best handle the situation. Allergies and problems such as chronic nasal obstruction can also contribute to the formation of under the eyes darkness.

Fatigue and Hormones Contribute to Dark Circle Under Eyes

Chronic fatigue and lack of sleep are a very common cause of eye circles which can easily be remedied. Spending too much time in the sun can increase one’s chances of acquiring dark under eye circles as can “woman-related” problems such as menstruation and pregnancy.

Drinking alcohol and caffeinated beverages, such as sodas, coffee and chocolate drinks, can encourage the appearance of those much hated under eye circles. Smoking is another major cause of developing dark under eye circles. Smoking serves to wreak havoc with circulation to the eyes as well as many other areas of the body.

Treatment and Cures for Dark Under the Eye Circles

While there is no one cure for dark under eye circles, there are (1) ways to avoid getting them; (2) ways to help keep them at bay; and, (3) ways to keep them from being too obvious.

Hydrating your body on a daily basis is so very important. It cannot be stressed too firmly that drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day is important to your health as well as your looks and well-being. One of the  major components of the body is water. We excrete it daily in the form of urine and perspiration, and it must be replenished.

Getting adequate sleep every day will go a long way in helping you to avoid the “raccoon eyes” syndrome. You can conceal dark circles under the eyes by applying cold compresses l to bring down the swelling or puffiness, especially first thing in the morning. Splashing cold water on your face first thing in the morning has a similar effect, plus it will leave your skin with a rosy glow which should take some of the focus off of the dark circles rimming your eyes.

It has not been proven that eye circles can be banished entirely using creams but there is some evidence to show that they work in concealing them to some degree. Choose creams for eye circles that contain antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C.

Finally, a concealer applied after foundation is a must for ladies who wake up to dark eye circles. Always choose a color that is a shade lighter than your skin tone and apply it very gently, making sure not to tug or pull on delicate skin in the eye area.
